WORCESTER — A man wanted in connection with a fatal shooting in Worcester earlier this month was apprehended today following a traffic stop in the San Diego area, according to authorities.
Dejan Belnavis, the suspect sought by Worcester Police Department for his alleged role in the March 5 shooting, is now in custody.
The arrest was the result of collaborative efforts between multiple law enforcement agencies.
Worcester Police Chief Paul Saucier expressed his gratitude for the extensive cooperation that led to Belnavis’s capture.
“I would like to thank our officers who worked tirelessly on this case, the Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section and the Massachusetts State Police, United States Marshal for the District of Massachusetts Brian Kyes and the United States Marshals of Massachusetts, the San Diego Police Department, the Hartford Police Department, the District of Rhode Island United States Marshals, the District of Maine United States Marshals, and the District of Maine Fugitive Task Force, and the U.S. Attorney for the District of Massachusetts,” Saucier stated.
Details about the traffic stop that resulted in Belnavis’s arrest have not been released.
The Worcester Police Department is expected to provide more information as the investigation continues.
