BARTON — A Barton man has been arrested on multiple charges, including aggravated assault and grossly negligent operation, following an incident at the Circle K on Main Street in Barton on Tuesday, March 5.
Vermont State Police responded to a report of a crash at the gas station at approximately 11:57 p.m. According to the investigation, 29-year-old Kevin Croteau engaged in fighting and tumultuous behavior in the parking lot with others present at the fuel pumps. After a physical altercation, Croteau reportedly attempted to hit or run over 50-year-old Ronald Morin of Barton with his truck.
Croteau then allegedly drove his truck intentionally into a parked vehicle belonging to 30-year-old Travis Dopp of Barton, pinning 34-year-old Jammie Cassidy of Glover between the truck she was fueling and the gas pump. Cassidy sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to North Country Hospital by a relative.
After striking the parked truck, Croteau fled the scene. Investigation revealed that his driver’s license was criminally suspended and that he had active court-ordered conditions of release, including one prohibiting him from consuming alcohol. A witness reported seeing Croteau drinking an alcoholic beverage prior to the incident.
On Thursday, March 7, a deputy with the Orleans County Sheriff’s Department located Croteau as a passenger in a car and took him into custody. He was processed at the Derby Barracks and ordered jailed for lack of $10,000 bail.
