ACTON — The Acton Police Department is investigating reports of a swatting call that was made on Wednesday night.
On March 6, at 7:07 p.m., the Acton Police Department received a call reporting that the caller had shot a family member and was holding them hostage at an Avalon Drive home.
Officers responded immediately to the address and learned that the report was false.
The incident is being investigated by the Acton Police Department as an act of swatting, which according to Oxford Language is “the action or practice of making a prank call to emergency services in an attempt to bring about the dispatch of a large number of armed police officers to a particular address.”
The incident remains under investigation by the Acton Police Department with assistance from other state and local agencies.
