NEWPORT — Incumbent Kevin Charboneau and Rick Ufford-Chase emerged victorious in the Newport City Council race on Tuesday, securing the two available seats.
Ufford-Chase, who currently leads the Newport City Downtown Development organization, received 379 votes, while Charboneau garnered 359 votes.
Andrew Touchette, a member of the Newport Fire Department, followed closely with 347 votes, and Laurie Grimm received 334 votes. Carl King, a familiar face in local political campaigns, received 76 votes.
The election saw a significant change as City Council President John Wilson, a long-standing figure in local governance, opted not to run for re-election.
