The Vermont Department of Corrections announced his death, noting that it does not appear suspicious at this time.

Brochu was serving a life without parole sentence for the aggravated murder of 18-year-old Tara Stratton, in January of 2003. The crime, which took place in Stratton’s Barre apartment, involved Brochu sexually assaulting and stabbing Stratton to death, along with mutilating her body.

Brochu had a history of criminal activities, including sexual assault and other violent offenses, stretching from 1982 to 2002.

Brochu was incarcerated in 2003 and was transferred out of state in 2011 to TCCF in Mississippi due to lack of space in Vermont correctional facilities.
