NEWPORT — The NCUHS basketball teams are making a strong showing in their respective divisions.
The varsity girls basketball team (18-2) secured the top seed in the upcoming D2 playoffs with a dominant 59-26 victory over Lyndon Institute on Saturday. Aaliyah Wilburn’s season-high 20 points led the team, supported by Addie Nelson with 10 points and Maya Auger with 9. Playoff brackets will be released Sunday.
The JV girls basketball team also finished their season on a high note, defeating Lyndon 35-22. Ava Patten was the top scorer with 16 points.
The No. 4 boys basketball team advanced to the D2 semifinals with a convincing 76-56 win over No.5 Fair Haven in Friday’s quarterfinal. Haidin Chilafoux was the standout player with a season-high 35 points, while Hayden Boivin and Brayden Pepin each contributed 15 points.
The Falcons will face No.1 Hartford on Monday, Feb. 26, at the Barre Auditorium at 8:15 p.m
