ASHBY — A serious head-on motor vehicle collision on Turnpike Road resulted in injuries to two people and a swift response from Ashby Police and Fire Departments on Monday.
At approximately 5:06 p.m., Ashby Police responded to reports of a crash near 324 Turnpike Road.
Officers discovered a 43-year-old Ashburnham woman and a 58-year-old Townsend man trapped in their vehicles after a white Cadillac Escalade and a red Ford pickup truck collided.
Turnpike Road was closed at Main Street by Ashby police and at the rotary by Townsend police to secure the scene.
Firefighters and EMS from both towns utilized hydraulic tools to extricate both individuals from the wreckage.
The woman was airlifted from Townsend to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, and the man was transported by Ashby Fire & EMS to the same hospital.
Both sustained serious injuries.
Ashby Police Chief Derek J. Pepple praised the rapid and professional response of the emergency services, emphasizing the importance of their actions during critical incidents.
The preliminary investigation suggests that the Escalade crossed into the eastbound lane, which will result in a citation for the driver.
