MILFORD — An Andover man was arrested Wednesday after he tried to pass a counterfeit check at a local Unibank and was later found to be in possession of methamphetamine, police said.

Sean B. Murphy was taken into custody at approximately 11:43 a.m. on Feb. 14 after Milford police officers and detectives responded to a call at the Unibank on 91 Prospect St.

Upon arrival, authorities were presented with a “Town of Medway” check for $4,380 that had been forged and made payable to Murphy.

An on-scene investigation revealed the check had been stolen from the mail and altered.

A subsequent search of Murphy led to the discovery of methamphetamine.

He has been charged with forgery of a check, uttering a false check, attempted larceny by check, and drug possession of a class B substance.

Murphy was transported to the Milford Police Department for booking following his arrest.

The case remains under investigation.
