SOUTH YARMOUTH — A routine traffic stop led to the arrest of a New Bedford man on drug and weapon charges Monday afternoon near the Bass River Bridge, Yarmouth Police reported.
Yarmouth Police Detectives pulled over a car for speeding and subsequently deployed a narcotics detection canine after detecting signs of drug activity.
The canine, K9 Gauge, uncovered a quantity of crack cocaine on the passenger, identified as 20-year-old Jatee Burch of New Bedford.
In addition to the drugs, detectives confiscated a spring-assisted knife and an undisclosed sum of cash from Burch.
He was taken into custody and charged with Possession of Class B (crack cocaine) with Intent to Distribute and Carrying a Dangerous Weapon.
Burch is scheduled for arraignment at Barnstable District Court on Tuesday.
The driver, whose identity was not released, received a citation for speeding.
