HINGHAM — A driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries early this morning after his truck veered across several lanes and struck a utility pole on the oncoming side of the road.
The crash occurred on Feb. 10 at 3:31 a.m. near 75 Whiting St. (Route 53), according to Hingham Police.
The eastbound truck collided with the pole without any apparent attempt to slow down, leading authorities to believe the driver may have fallen asleep at the wheel.
Upon impact, the utility pole snapped in half and fell onto the vehicle.
Whiting St. was closed to traffic until 4:45 a.m. as emergency services responded to the incident.
The 48-year-old driver was cited for Negligent Operation and Failing to Stay Within Marked Lanes.
