AUBURN — A missing 12-year-old child was safely recovered late Wednesday night after a K9 unit from the Auburn Police Department successfully tracked their scent over a two-mile distance in freezing temperatures.

The child, who had not been seen since leaving their home around 8:30 p.m., was located in the Pakachoag Hill area following an extensive search by local law enforcement and Massachusetts State Police.

Officer Ljunggren and his K9 partner, Biza, were called to the scene shortly after the Auburn Police Department was alerted to the disappearance at about 10:30 p.m.

The police dog managed to pick up the child’s scent and led officers through the area, eventually discovering evidence that the child had been there recently.

Authorities quickly converged on the location indicated by K9 Biza, finding the child a short time later.

The child was subsequently reunited with their family, ending the night on a positive note.
