WILLIAMSBURG — A routine patrol turned into an arrest last night when a Pittsfield man nearly struck a parked Williamsburg police cruiser while speeding and was found to be illegally in possession of firearms.

Officer Fisher was conducting radar checks from his parked cruiser when a vehicle traveling at 34 m.p.h. in a 25 m.p.h. zone nearly hit the police vehicle.

After stopping the car, Fisher noticed a firearm on the hip of the 39-year-old male driver.

The man, whose name has not yet been released, had an active warrant for his arrest.

A subsequent check by Officer Fisher revealed that the man’s License to Carry Firearms had been suspended, making it illegal for him to possess any firearms.

Upon searching the vehicle post-arrest, another firearm was located in a floor compartment along with a large capacity magazine.

The man was taken into custody and is facing charges related to the traffic violation, the active warrant, and illegal possession of firearms.

The investigation is ongoing, and further details will be released as they become available.
