LONDONDERRY — A small plane crashed Thursday morning in a residential area, leaving the pilot critically injured, authorities said.
The Londonderry Police Department received multiple emergency calls around 7:28 a.m. reporting a possible crash near Wiley Hill Road and Colonial Drive.
Responding officers and fire department personnel were directed to the back of a property at 5 Colonial Drive, where they found a heavily damaged Beechcraft 99 aircraft in the woods.
The pilot, who was the only person on board, was trapped in the wreckage.
Firefighters extricated the pilot, who was then transported to Elliot Hospital in Manchester for treatment.
Due to the severity of the injuries, the pilot was later moved to a hospital in the Boston area and remains in critical condition.
Officials have secured the crash site and are assisting the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) with the investigation.
The Londonderry Police Department has asked the public to avoid the area to ensure the investigation and recovery efforts are not hindered.
