BARNSTABLE — A former school bus driver has been indicted on multiple charges of sexual assault involving children, District Attorney Robert J. Galibois announced today.
Jeffrey Hyland, 80, of West Yarmouth, faces two counts of aggravated indecent assault and battery on a child under 14, two counts of reckless endangerment of a child, and intimidation of a witness following a Barnstable County Grand Jury decision.
The charges relate to two separate incidents in Barnstable.
The first was reported to police at about 1:30 p.m. on Sept. 13, when a juvenile female alleged her male bus driver had indecently assaulted her.
The Barnstable Police were able to gather corroborating evidence during their investigation.
A second juvenile victim came forward on Oct. 3, alleging Hyland inappropriately touched them around Sept. 5.
Assistant District Attorney Vanessa Madge of the Child Protection Unit, along with Victim Witness Assistant Kori McGrath, will prosecute the case.
In light of the sensitive nature of the charges, the Cape & Islands District Attorney’s Office will refrain from further comment on the matter involving Hyland, who has yet to receive an arraignment date.
