BRAINTREE — A CVS pharmacy at 884 Washington St. was the scene of an armed robbery on Friday afternoon, according to the Braintree Police Department.
Police received a 911 call around 2:30 p.m. from a sales associate at the CVS who reported being robbed by a man claiming to have a gun in his bag.
The suspect, after wandering the store and waiting for other customers to leave, approached the register and demanded money.
The suspect is described as a black male, between 5′ 8″ and 6′ 0″, with a medium build and black hair.
He was last seen wearing all black clothing, a surgical mask, and brown work boots, and is believed to have fled on foot.
Multiple police units, including a K9 unit, responded to the incident.
As a precaution, an area school was advised to shelter in place.
After two hours of searching, officers determined the suspect had left the area and called off the search.
Authorities believe the suspect may have used nearby side streets to escape and are asking residents near Thayer Library, the Fire Headquarters, and the Braintree Transit Station to review any available video footage for potential leads.
The Braintree Police Department expressed gratitude to the community and local businesses for their cooperation during the search and assured that the investigation is ongoing.
Anyone with information is encouraged to come forward to assist in the apprehension of the suspect.
