DRACUT — A fatal crash on Merrimack Avenue claimed the life of one person and injured eight others on Saturday night, according to the local authorities.
Police Chief Peter Bartlett and Fire Chief Richard Patterson, along with the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office, reported that the Dracut Police and Fire Departments were summoned to the scene near 1020 Merrimack Avenue at around 9 p.m. on Jan. 20.
Upon arrival, emergency crews encountered a four-vehicle collision with multiple serious injuries.
One individual was pronounced dead at the scene, while eight other victims were treated by first responders and taken to nearby hospitals for further care.
The section of Merrimack Avenue where the crash occurred was closed for several hours as police and emergency teams worked at the site.
The Dracut Police Department is actively investigating the cause of the crash, with support from the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office and the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section.
