Impressive start for local snowboarding teams at Bromley Mountain

NEWPORT –– Local snowboarders from Lake Region High School and North Country Union High School showcased their talent at the recent meet held at Bromley Mountain Resort.

In the Giant Slalom (GS) competition, Lake Region High School’s boys snowboarding team clinched third place, while North Country Union High School’s boys’ team secured victory, marking an impressive start to their season. Lake Region’s girls team secured fifth place in the Rail Jam event, while North Country Union’s girls’ team showed strong performance, finishing third in both the GS and Rail Jam events.

Varsity Teams Shine

Both varsity teams demonstrated commendable performance with several riders achieving top-ten finishes. For Lake Region’s girls team, Bella Hanover led the way in the Rail Jam, earning a 9th place finish. In the GS event, Hanover put in a strong performance, finishing 17th. Her teammates Maeda Urie and Nell Urie also contributed, finishing 23rd and 26th, respectively.

North Country Union’s standout individual performances in the Girls Rail Jam included Willow Clements and Dakotah Bowen, who finished 5th and 8th, respectively. In the Girls GS, the same duo secured the 5th and 6th places.

Boys Standouts

For Lake Region’s boys, Chase Stenger and Kyle Labounty were standout performers in the GS, finishing 7th and 10th, respectively. In the GS competition, Telly Harris, Tristan Blay, Noah Zebrowski, Bretton Phillips, Austin Peters, and Preston Baraw represented Lake Region, finishing 21st, 24th, 33rd, 56th, 58th, and 62nd, respectively.

North Country Union’s boys’ team had Elliot Goff landing in 8th place in the Rail Jam, with teammate Logan Ellis coming in at 14th. In the GS competition, Elliot Goff finished 5th, closely followed by Quinn Goff in 6th place and Logan Ellis in 8th.

Upcoming Competition

The snowboarding teams are now gearing up for their next competition, scheduled to take place at Stowe on Jan. 24 at 10 a.m. Both teams are looking to build on their early-season successes and continue to impress on the slopes.
