CHICOPEE — Police arrested a local man Wednesday morning after executing a search warrant that uncovered a firearm and ammunition in his residence, authorities said.

Detectives from the Chicopee Police Department’s Narcotic Division, alongside C3 Center Officers and the Western Mass Gang Unit, conducted the search at around 6:30 a.m. at a residence on 2 Springfield St. The operation followed an investigation suggesting the occupant might be engaged in illegal activities.

Benjamin Green, a 42-year-old resident of the address, was found to be in possession of a firearm and ammunition without the necessary licenses.

Green was taken into custody without incident and has been charged with improper storage of a firearm, possession of a firearm without a Firearms Identification (FID) card, and possession of ammunition without an FID card.

The Chicopee Police Department has not released further details about the investigation leading to Green’s arrest, but they have reiterated the importance of firearm safety and proper licensing.

The case remains under investigation.
