CAMPTON — Just after noon on Jan. 15, emergency crews from Campton-Thornton Fire Rescue and Campton Police Department responded to a snowmobile fire reported on Primary 152 near Abenaki Farm, at the base of Ellsworth Hill Road.
Lakes Region Mutual Fire Aid dispatchers successfully located the caller on a section of the trail close to the Sunset Grille.
Engine 4 arrived at the scene where bystanders directed them to a fully engulfed snowmobile about a half-mile up the trail.
A firefighter was quickly transported to the site and began extinguishing the fire using a fire extinguisher and handfuls of snow.
Additional personnel followed with a utility terrain vehicle (UTV) and extra extinguishers to aid in the effort.
After the blaze was controlled, the crew moved the snowmobile to the side of the trail, allowing the path to be reopened to the public.
The Central New Hampshire Snowmobile Club took charge of clearing away the remains of the vehicle.
Authorities reported no injuries from the incident.
The cause of the fire is believed to be mechanical.
NH Fish and Game Conservation Officers also attended the scene.
