NEWPORT — On Tuesday night, the Newport City Fire Department carried out an intensive ice rescue training session at Gardner Park.
The exercise aimed to sharpen the skills necessary for victim rescue in icy conditions.
The training included a comprehensive set of drills, including the proper use of dry suits, managing lifelines and ropes, techniques for safely entering and exiting icy waters, and practicing victim rescue with the department’s Rescue Alive sled.
Despite the chilling temperatures, the team diligently practiced these critical seasonal skills, reinforcing their commitment to readiness and efficiency in emergency situations.
This training is a key component of the departments ongoing efforts to ensure the safety and well-being of the community during the winter months.
