Lyndon man arrested for DUI, drug possession, multiple warrants

ST. JOHNSBURY — A traffic stop conducted by Vermont State Police led to the arrest of Matthew Laplant, 37, of Lyndon, on multiple charges including DUI-drug possession and several outstanding warrants.

Troopers from the St. Johnsbury Barracks were patrolling the area of Railroad Street and Portland Street on the night of Jan. 14 when they observed a vehicle committing several violations.

After pulling the vehicle over at approximately 9:43 p.m., troopers made contact with Laplant, the driver.

Upon conducting field sobriety tests, troopers determined that Laplant was operating the vehicle under the influence of intoxicants.

A search also revealed that he was in possession of narcotic drugs.

Further investigation uncovered two outstanding warrants for sex offender registry violations, four for negligent operation, four for driving with a suspended license, one for leaving the scene of a crash, and one for retail theft.

Laplant was taken into custody and processed at the St. Johnsbury Barracks.

He has been cited to appear in Caledonia County Superior Court on three separate dates to face the charges.

After processing, he was transported to the Northeast Correctional Complex and held on bail.
