DOVER — A Colombian national was sentenced on Jan. 9 in federal court for illegal reentry into the United States after deportation, according to United States Attorney Jane E. Young.
Jheisson Rizo Suarez, 39, received a 24-month prison sentence and one year of supervised release from Chief U.S. District Court Judge Landya B. McCafferty.
Rizo Suarez had previously pleaded guilty to one count of reentry after deportation on Sept. 18.
U.S. Attorney Jane E. Young emphasized the commitment to prosecuting individuals who reenter the country unlawfully and commit crimes. “The U.S. Attorney’s Office will continue to aggressively prosecute those, like the defendant, who commit violent crimes while in the United States illegally,” Young stated.
Rizo Suarez was initially arrested by the Dover Police Department on July 9, 2021, during a residential burglary in progress.
Investigation later confirmed that he was in the country illegally, following his previous deportation on Jan. 28, 2013.
The case, stemming from the efforts of both the Dover Police Department and the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement, was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Geoffrey Ward.
