SPRINGFIELD — Two suspects were arrested and a loaded large-capacity “ghost gun” was seized following a traffic stop conducted by Springfield Police Officers on the night of Jan. 9.
At approximately 11 p.m., officers pulled over a vehicle on State Street for lack of inspection.
The driver, identified as Samuel Irenes-Colon, 18, of Springfield, hesitated to stop, finally pulling over after several attempts on Catharine Street.
Irenes-Colon was promptly arrested for failing to stop for the police.
During the incident, officers noticed a prepackaged bag of marijuana visible in the car, which neither the driver nor the passenger were legally old enough to possess.
A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered drug packaging materials and a firearm inside the glove box.
The gun, described as a ghost gun, was loaded with 11 rounds of ammunition.
The passenger, Tavion Ross, 20, also from Springfield, was taken into custody.
Irenes-Colon is facing multiple charges including carrying a loaded firearm without a license, possession of a large capacity firearm, possession of a firearm without a license, possession of a high-capacity magazine/feeding device, possession with the intent to distribute a Class D drug, and failure to stop for police.
Ross is charged similarly with carrying a loaded firearm without a license, possession of a large capacity firearm, possession of a firearm without a license, and possession of a high-capacity magazine/feeding device.
