Rhode Island task force arrests two on multiple charges, including homicide

WOONSOCKET — Two Rhode Island men have been arrested on separate charges, including a homicide warrant and multiple counts of larceny and drug possession, authorities said Thursday.

Stephon X. Nelson, 28, was taken into custody on Jan. 3 by the Rhode Island Violent Fugitive Task Force on a New York state warrant for second-degree murder.

Nelson, a resident of 126 Brook Street in Woonsocket, was processed at the Lincoln Barracks following his arrest.

He was later arraigned as a Fugitive from Justice in the Providence County District Court.

On the same day, the Gaming Enforcement Unit arrested Darnelle T. Kelly, 40, of 30 Howard Avenue, Cranston, on several charges including Larceny Under $1500, Possession of Schedule I-V controlled substances, specifically under 10 grams of Crack Cocaine, carrying a prohibited weapon, a 12-inch hunting knife, and obstructing an officer in the execution of duty.

Kelly was also processed at the Lincoln Barracks and had his arraignment in the Third District Court.

The arrests are the result of ongoing investigations by Rhode Island law enforcement agencies.
