NEWPORT — The City of Newport has announced it is actively seeking applications for the full-time position of Fire Chief, a role that is critical in safeguarding the community against fire hazards and emergencies.
The individual appointed to this position will be tasked with the comprehensive management of the city’s fire department, including the oversight of operations and the maintenance of equipment aimed at the prevention and control of fires and hazardous materials incidents. Additionally, the Fire Chief will carry out the hiring and dismissal of firefighters as stipulated by 24 V.S.A. § 1953, and enforce local bylaws and safety regulations.
Prospective candidates must possess the capability to respond swiftly to emergency situations, effectively communicate and provide guidance, and oversee the work of employees, volunteers, and other firefighting units.
