WORCESTER — A man was arrested and a loaded handgun seized following a reported attempted robbery at M&T Bank on Front St. around 9:07 a.m. on Dec. 13.
Worcester Police officers responded to the scene after receiving a call about a possible robbery attempt.
Witnesses provided officers with a detailed description of a suspect who was believed to be armed.
Upon arrival, police noticed Javier Camacho, 42, of Winthrop St., standing across from the bank.
He matched the suspect description and began to walk away as officers approached.
While some officers interviewed witnesses at the scene, who claimed a man had threatened another person with a firearm demanding money, others engaged with Camacho.
He fled when officers spotted what appeared to be a firearm in his possession, leading to a short chase on foot.
Camacho was promptly apprehended and after a preliminary investigation, was found to be the individual described by witnesses.
The recovered handgun was loaded.
Facing multiple charges including kidnapping, extortion, attempted armed robbery, and illegal firearm possession, Camacho is being held responsible for the incident.
Additional charges include improper storage of a firearm, use of a firearm in a felony, possession of ammunition without an FID card, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, and disturbing the peace.
