EASTHAMPTON — A Southampton man died early this morning after his vehicle crashed at a busy Easthampton intersection, authorities said.
The 21-year-old driver was traveling east on Pomeroy Meadow Road around 6:40 a.m. when he failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection with Glendale Street and West Street, according to officials.
His vehicle struck the guardrail on the southeast corner, became airborne, and finally came to rest in a wooded area after landing in a nearby field.
Easthampton Police and Fire Departments responded to the scene, along with the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section (CARS), Crime Scene Services Section, and Detectives from the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
The road was closed for several hours, with detours in place until they were lifted at about 1:15 p.m.
Investigators are looking into the cause of the crash.
