Transformer fire leads to power outage near Merrimack school

1 min read

MERRIMACK — A transformer fire early Monday morning prompted emergency response from Merrimack police and firefighters just after 4 a.m. on Camp Sargent Road.

Upon dispatch, units were informed that a branch or tree had fallen on primary power lines, potentially sparking a fire.

The affected lines were found opposite Thorntons Ferry School, forcing responders to shut down the road to traffic.

Utility company Eversource was called to the scene and has been working to repair the damage.

As of 7 a.m., a significant power outage affected the area around the incident.

Merrimack Police released a Nixel notification stating that electricity is anticipated to be restored within the next 1.5 hours, although this remains an estimate.

While Camp Sargent Road has been reopened to traffic, it is currently unclear whether Thorntons Ferry School will commence classes.

Parents and staff are advised to check the Merrimack School system’s communications for updates.
