RUSSELL — A Pittsfield man was arrested Friday evening on multiple charges, including his third offense of operating under the influence (OUI), after Russell Montgomery Police Department officers responded to reports of erratic driving on Huntington Road.
At approximately 7:30 p.m., while the police station hosted a Santa meet-and-greet event, officers were dispatched to the scene where they found the vehicle in question.
Upon arrival, they encountered a heavily impaired driver who admitted attempting to return to Pittsfield and subsequently challenged the officers to a fight.
Backup officers arrived, and the Pittsfield man was taken into custody without further incident.
In addition to the OUI charge, he faces several other charges.
A search of the vehicle revealed 62 nip bottles before it was towed.
The man was arraigned in Westfield District Court on Saturday morning.
Authorities expressed gratitude to the witnesses who reported the erratic driver, crediting them with preventing potential harm to others on the road that night.
