ORWELL — An Orwell man was arrested on charges of DUI refusal and leaving the scene of an accident after a traffic stop revealed his alleged involvement in a hit-and-run.

Fair Haven Police took Clinton C. Snyder, 34, into custody on Dec. 9 at 10:10 p.m. after observing his vehicle failing to maintain its lane on Washington Street.

During the stop, officers detected signs of alcohol impairment.

Snyder failed field sobriety tests and subsequently refused to provide a breath sample, leading to the DUI refusal charge.

Investigation revealed that prior to the stop, Snyder had allegedly struck a stop sign on N. Park Place and fled the scene.

Snyder was arrested and released with a summons to appear in Rutland District Court at a later date.

Patrol Officer Cheri McDermott is the investigating officer in the case.
