IRASBURG — A propane tanker that veered off Vermont Route 14 and caught fire in the Black River early Monday morning is still burning, posing ongoing safety concerns.
A drone inspection of the 10,000-gallon liquid propane gas tanker revealed a puncture in the vehicle, fortunately reducing the risk of a catastrophic explosion.
However, the fire is expected to continue until the propane is completely exhausted.
As a precautionary measure, multiple road closures and a one-mile evacuation zone around the crash site remain in effect.
For those displaced by the evacuation, warming centers have been set up at the Irasburg Town Hall and the Newport City Municipal Building.
