NEW BEDFORD — A routine check of a disabled motor vehicle on State Road and Old Bedford Road led to the arrest of three individuals on Tuesday, police said.

Officer Jarrod Levesque was assisting with the vehicle when a registration query revealed that the owner, Wayne Ferreira of Fall River, had an active arrest warrant.

After a conversation with the vehicle’s occupants, Levesque arrested Ferreira.

A search revealed a bag of suspected cocaine in Ferreira’s sock.

During Ferreira’s arrest, another occupant, Arielle LaFreniere of New Bedford, was seen reaching into the vehicle.

Officer Levesque intervened and, while retrieving LaFreniere’s purse from the backseat, discovered another bag of suspected cocaine.

LaFreniere was subsequently arrested.

The third passenger provided a false name but was later identified as Cliff Cardoso of New Bedford.

Cardoso was also arrested on outstanding warrants.

The New Bedford Police Department has not released further details on the charges pending against the individuals.

The investigation is ongoing.
