COLCHESTER — Authorities have identified 41-year-old Dontay Canada of Burlington as the victim of yesterday’s shooting in Colchester.
Canada remains in critical condition at UVM Medical Center following the incident.
Last night, Saint Albans Police Department and the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office located and stopped a vehicle linked to the shooting.
While the vehicle was seized and its occupants were interviewed, no arrests were made.
The Vermont State Police Crime Scene Search Team arrived this morning to aid in collecting evidence at the scene.
Colchester Police, with assistance from the Chittenden County Violent Crime Task Force, coordinated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), are continuing their investigation into the shooting.
The incident was first reported at 4:04 p.m. yesterday when the Colchester Emergency Communications Center received a 911 call about a male shot on Ethan Allen Avenue.
Police units from Colchester and Winooski responded, providing immediate care to the victim before he was transported to the hospital by Colchester Rescue.
Early stages of the investigation suggest the shooting was not random.
The Colchester Police Department urges anyone with information to contact them at 802-264-5555.
