WILLISTON — Troopers from the Williston Barracks conducted a targeted saturation patrol on Interstate 89 near the Williston Rest Area between 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Nov. 17, focusing on aggressive driving and promoting road safety.
During the operation, three troopers carried out nine traffic stops, resulting in five traffic tickets and four written warnings.
A notable aspect of the patrol was the apprehension of five drivers traveling more than 20 mph over the speed limit.
The saturation patrol was part of the state police’s efforts to enhance safety on the highways, especially as heavier traffic is expected due to upcoming holiday travel.
The Vermont State Police emphasized the importance of responsible driving, including using a sober driver, maintaining a safe following distance, planning routes in advance, and avoiding distractions such as phone use behind the wheel.
The reminder comes at a crucial time when roads become busier and the likelihood of accidents can increase.
