RUSSELL — An officer patrolling Huntington Road yesterday afternoon apprehended a driver who was caught traveling nearly double the speed limit without a valid driver’s license.
At around 1 p.m., Officer Alyssa Farnham, who was on routine traffic duty, observed a vehicle heading eastbound at a high rate of speed.
The posted limit is 35 mph, but Farnham’s radar confirmed the vehicle was moving at 61 mph.
After activating the patrol car’s emergency lights, Farnham conducted a traffic stop.
A subsequent records check revealed that the driver did not possess a valid Massachusetts driver’s license.
The individual was arrested and taken to the Massachusetts State Police barracks in Russell for booking and processing.
The driver is scheduled to appear for arraignment at Westfield District Court this morning.
