NEWFANE –– A 54-year-old Brookline man was arrested on Tuesday, Oct. 31 after failing to yield to traffic control devices and displaying erratic behavior on VT Route 30, according to authorities.
Deputy Thomas Raymond and Deputy Richard Yastrzemski reported that they observed a 2021 Hyundai Venue, displaying a Massachusetts registration 2TWC16, enter a work zone without complying with traffic rules.
Despite the activation of emergency lights, the driver, identified as Gabriel T. Smith, failed to stop for law enforcement and continued his journey south through the work zone into Brattleboro.
A Be on the Lookout (BOL) alert was subsequently issued for Smith’s vehicle.
At approximately 4 p.m., officers with the Brattleboro Police Department located the vehicle and its operator on Canal Street in Brattleboro.
Following confirmation of Smith’s identity and involvement in the initial complaint, he was taken into custody and transported to the Windham County Sheriff’s Office for processing.
After processing, Smith was released on a Criminal Citation and is expected to appear in the Windham Superior Court, Criminal Division at a later date.
Smith is facing charges of negligent operation of a motor vehicle.
