DURHAM –– A train accident involving a pedestrian, which occurred last week, has been ruled as a suicide by the Office of the NH Medical Examiner.
Durham police confirmed the deceased was a female but have decided to withhold further details, including her name, pending notification of next of kin.
The tragic incident happened on Friday, October 20, around 9:20 a.m. near the Bennett Road overpass next to the Doe Farm parking area.
The Durham Police Department, Durham Fire Department, and McGregor Memorial EMS rapidly responded to the report of a pedestrian being struck by a train.
Upon arrival, officers found the woman deceased next to the railroad tracks.
Train service was temporarily suspended while crews worked adjacent to the tracks. However, it has since resumed and is currently operational.
The investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
