State police cruiser involved in crash on I-93 North in Londonderry

LONDONDERRY –– A New Hampshire State Police cruiser was hit by a vehicle on I-93 North just north of exit 4 on Wednesday afternoon, causing injuries to the officer and the other driver.

The incident occurred around 3:38 p.m. when Michael Shanahan, 36, of North Chelmsford, Massachusetts, driving a 2017 grey Hyundai Elantra, collided with the cruiser.

The state trooper was stationed in the right shoulder of the highway with emergency lights on, providing safety services at an active construction site at the time of the crash.

According to reports, Shanahan was driving in the right breakdown lane before striking the police cruiser.

Both the trooper and Shanahan were transported to the Elliot Hospital for treatment of injuries that were not life-threatening.

Members of the New Hampshire State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction (CAR) Unit, Londonderry Police Department, and medical personnel from the Londonderry Fire Department responded to the scene.

The incident is under investigation.
