DERRY –– A motorcycle collision with a pickup truck on Haverhill Road prompted CPR and left a male motorcyclist with serious injuries on Tuesday, September 19.
At 2:48 p.m., a 9-1-1 call was made to Derry Fire Communications Center about the incident. When the Windham Police arrived, they found a full-size pickup truck with significant front-end damage and a motorcycle down in the intersection.
The male motorcyclist was being attended to by bystanders, stated Chief Thomas McPherson Jr.
The unidentified motorcyclist, who suffered a severe head injury and profuse bleeding, was semi-conscious.
He was initially transported to Parkland Medical Center by Windham Medic-2.
Due to the severity of his injuries, Derry Fire was asked to assist with Rapid Sequence Intubation (RSI) en route to better manage the patient’s airway.
The pickup truck driver was unharmed.
Windham Medic-2, which was also assisted by an Engine Company, met with Derry Fire Paramedics on Windham Road near Towne Road.
A request for Air Medical was made to DHART, but it was later cancelled due to time constraints.
The motorcyclist was then transported to Elliot Hospital in Manchester, NH, where a Trauma Team Activation was requested.
The intersection was closed for a substantial period while the Windham Police, with assistance from Derry Police, investigated the accident.
