DERBY LINE –– Authorities have shut down the northbound lanes of Interstate 91, north of the Vermont Route 191 interchange at Exit 27, due to an active police investigation at the Derby Line border crossing with Canada.
Starting at approximately noon, the closure has caused significant disruptions, prompting local schools to alter their bus routes and urging drivers to seek alternative routes.
As a result, commuters are warned of possible traffic congestion and delays on neighboring roads.
While the I-91 Port of Entry remains closed, cross-border traffic has been rerouted to U.S. Route 5.
In response to the unfolding situation, the Vermont State Police Bomb Squad has been deployed to aid U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP).
The CBP is spearheading the investigation.
