COLCHESTER –– The individual behind a threat at Colchester Middle School (CMS) has been identified by the Colchester Police Department. The individual, a CMS student, had made a statement threatening to commit a shooting at the school.

Police Chief Douglas Allen announced that due to the individual’s status as a minor, they are unable to disclose further details about their identity or motivations.

The threat was made in a chat room tied to an online game that students were playing.

The Colchester Police Department, however, determined the threat was not credible. There was no intent to act on the statement and the student does not have access to weapons.

In coordination with the Colchester School District Safety Team, the Colchester Police Department has declared that schools are safe to reopen. Normal activities will resume on Friday, September 15, 2023.
