WESTMORE –– The days-long search for 72-year-old Judith Giglio came to a somber conclusion today when search crews located her body in the woods approximately a mile and a half from her Goodwin Mountain Lane residence.
Giglio, a resident of Westmore, had been missing since about 3:30 p.m. on Friday. The extensive search operation involved nearly 90 participants from various agencies including the Vermont State Police Search and Rescue Team, the Vermont Warden Service, New England K9 Search and Rescue, and several local EMS and fire departments. On Tuesday, the Vermont National Guard also assisted in the efforts.
The body was recovered early in the evening on Tuesday and is set to be examined by the Vermont Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Burlington. The autopsy will determine the exact cause and manner of her death.
At this time, the Vermont State Police have stated there are no indications of any suspicious circumstances surrounding her death.
Throughout the search, the Vermont State Police had appealed to the community for any surveillance footage or images from the area surrounding Goodwin Mountain Lane, where Giglio was last seen. The state police expressed their gratitude towards the Westmore community for their unwavering support during the search.
