RUTLAND — A 59-year-old man was cited for leaving the scene of an accident in Rutland on Thursday.
Authorities say they were notified of a hit-and-run crash in the parking lot of Hannaford Supermarket at around 2:45 p.m.
According to the report, a red sedan had crashed into a parked vehicle, owned by William Buckley, of Stockholm, NJ, in the Hannaford parking lot.
Police say the red sedan then sped away as a witness attempted to stop the vehicle.
There was contact damage to the rear bumper on the passenger side of Buckley’s vehicle as a result of the crash.
Troopers located the red sedan at a home in the City of Rutland a short time later and identified the driver as George A. Sumner, of Rutland.
Following an investigation, police say Sumner had knowingly left the scene after crashing into Buckley’s vehicle.
He was cited to appear in court on October 30 to answer to the charge of leaving the scene of a crash.
