RUTLAND — A 79-year-old man from New Jersey was involved in a crash in Rutland yesterday.
The incident took place in the Hannaford parking lot on Green Mountain Plaza at around 3:45 p.m.
According to the report, a red sedan had crashed into a parked vehicle, owned by William Buckley, of Stockholm, NJ, in the Hannaford parking lot.
The red sedan then sped away as a witness attempted to stop the vehicle.
Police say there was contact damage to the rear bumper on the passenger side of Buckley’s vehicle as a result of the crash.
Troopers located the red sedan at a home in the city a short time later and identified the driver as George A. Sumner, of Rutland.
Following an investigation, police say that Sumner had knowingly left the scene after crashing into Buckley’s vehicle.
He was cited to appear in court on October 30 to answer to the charge of leaving the scene of a crash.
