MILLSFIELD –– A Barnstead man was injured in a utility terrain vehicle crash on Millsfield Pond Road in Millsfield on Friday, September 1, according to a statement from the New Hampshire Fish and Game Region 1 office.
Joshua Whittier, 23, was reportedly operating his vehicle beyond the legal time limit and at an unreasonable speed when he lost the use of his headlights around 8:30 p.m., causing him to brake abruptly and roll his vehicle.
Whittier was assisted by other riders on the trail and a family member transported him to Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital in Colebrook. A 911 call was placed around 9:30 p.m.
Conservation Officer Levi Frye, who investigated the scene and interviewed Whittier, issued a summons for unreasonable speed. Alcohol and drugs are not considered contributing factors in the crash.
The New Hampshire Fish and Game Department urges all operators to be aware of the legal times of operation and to ride within their limits while recreating on New Hampshire’s trails.
The legal time limit for operating off-highway recreational vehicles on public trails is half an hour past sunset.
