ALSTEAD –– A large, two-and-a-half story house and its attached barn were engulfed in flames early this morning on High Street, leading Alstead Fire and Rescue to respond just after 1 a.m.
Upon arrival, Engine 1 crew found the rear of the house and the barn fully involved in the fire.
The crew, along with additional support from Langdon, worked together to stretch a 2.5-inch line to the rear of the building and another to the Delta side, managing to knock down the bulk of the flames quickly.
According to Alstead Fire and Rescue, one individual and a firefighter were transported from the scene.
Alstead Ambulance took the civilian, while Walpole Ambulance transported the firefighter.
Several local fire and rescue departments, including Langdon Fire/Rescue, Walpole Fire/EMS, Acworth Fire/Rescue, Westminster Fire/Rescue, Lempster Fire/Rescue, Marlow Fire, Gilsum Fire and North Walole Fire/Rescue were on scene.
Southwestern NH District Fire Mutual Aid dispatchers, along with Marlow and Surry fire departments, provided cover trucks to both Alstead stations.
Cheshire County EMS also sent an ambulance to the scene while Alstead Ambulance was at the hospital.
