CASTLETON — A 48-year-old man from South Burlington was arrested for DUI following an incident in Castleton yesterday.
Authorities say they were notified of a vehicle operating erratically and causing public safety concerns while traveling west on U.S. Route 4 in Castleton at around 11:50 a.m.
Police say the vehicle exited U.S. Route 4 and traveled north on Vermont Route 22A through Fair Haven, West Haven, and Benson before becoming disabled along Vermont Route 22A.
Police contacted the driver, identified as Charles Whittemore.
Police say Whittemore displayed several signs of impairment and was taken into custody and transported to the State Police barracks in Rutland Town for processing.
He was released on a citation to appear in court on September 18 for the offenses of DUI and operating a motor vehicle on a public highway with his privilege to do so being criminally suspended.
During the investigation into the incident, it was found that Whittemore had struck several other vehicles while operating his vehicle along U.S. Route 4 and Vermont Route 22A.
These collisions are currently under investigation which may result in additional criminal charges.
