ROCHESTER –– A two-vehicle collision between a car and a motorcycle resulted in the death of the motorcycle operator and temporarily closed a busy city intersection last night.
The accident occurred at approximately 7:40 p.m. on Saturday, August 19, at the intersection of South Main St and Portland St, near the old Royals Pizza.
Emergency services from Rochester Police, Fire, and Frisbie EMS were on the scene, responding to reports of serious injuries.
The severity of the crash led to the roadway being shut down and traffic diverted for several hours as responders worked to clear the scene and assist those involved.
The motorcycle operator, who was transported from the scene, later succumbed to their injuries at the hospital.
Investigations into the circumstances of the accident are still underway.
The Strafford County Regional Technical Accident Reconstruction Team is assisting Rochester Police with the probe.
In respect to the families involved, authorities are withholding the names of those involved in the accident until family members are properly notified.
