NEWPORT — Nashville star and Vermont native Jamie Lee Thurston is set to headline “Celebrate Memphremagog,” an acoustic concert to be held on the shores of Lake Memphremagog. The event, sponsored by local environmental organization Don’t Undermine Memphremagog’s Purity (DUMP), aims to raise funds for preserving the region’s water quality and protecting local wildlife.
The concert is scheduled for Tuesday, August 8, from 6 to 9 p.m., at The Eastside Restaurant in Newport. The opening act will be the popular duo “Sibling Reverie.”
DUMP is a grassroots organization committed to protecting Lake Memphremagog and its surrounding area from environmental threats, including potential contamination from the Coventry landfill and its continued expansion.
Effie Brown, the event organizer, described “Celebrate Memphremagog” as an opportunity for community members to express their appreciation for Lake Memphremagog, the “crown jewel of the Northeast Kingdom.” The lake is valued for its scenic beauty, recreational offerings, and its role as a drinking water reservoir for thousands of Quebec neighbors. It also serves as a key contributor to the local and regional economy, attracting visitors that support local businesses.
Attendees are invited to bring their own chairs. Should it rain, the concert will move indoors. Food trucks will also be present from 5 to 8 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the Newport Farmer’s Market, ‘Wednesdays on the Waterfront’ events, and online at NoLakeDump.org.
Ticket prices are $30 for adults, $50 for couples, $15 for ages 13-18, and children under 12 are admitted free.
