RUTLAND — A sweeping police operation that swept through Rutland’s Highlander Motel on Thursday concluded with three individuals taken into custody.
They are expected to make their first federal court appearance on Friday.
The Vermont State Police spearheaded the operation, but declined to give further comment, citing the ongoing investigation.
Earlier on Thursday, various local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies, including the Vermont State Police, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Homeland Security Investigations, and Rutland City Police Department, swooped in to execute court-ordered search warrants at the Highlander Motel on U.S. Route 7.
This operation, part of an ongoing probe into illegal drug activities, saw the Vermont State Police’s Tactical Services Unit and the Narcotics Investigation Unit leading from the front.
During the operation, locals experienced an increased police presence around the motel area.
However, law enforcement officials emphasized that the operation was confined to the motel property and posed no threat to the wider Rutland community.
Further details on the case are being withheld as the case is federally prosecuted.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Burlington is expected to provide more information at the appropriate time.
